Twisted Charm - London Scene This saxophone laden tune has had a meteoric rise to become the ironic anthem which sums up life in the big smoke. Any resident of the capital who happens to be conscious will relate to every one of the depressing yet annoyingly perfect summations made by the distinctive Nathan Doom. This song is Twisted Charm at their best; a fusion of brilliant sounds and genres. The jazzy saxophone, the scratchy guitar and short sharp bursts of tearing drum and bass are in just the right mix that would persuade even the Pope want to get up and have a jig around the room. From the lack of amiable contact on London Underground all the way through to the binge drinking epidemic rife amongst the "city boys", 'London Scene' is a grim journey through what it's all really like beneath that eclectic surface. The ironic undertones of ending the chrous with "But we're still proud" will strike deep into every Londonder. For all it's troubles, we still love our city. 4/5 Sahil Varma |
