Love Is All - Busy Doing Nothing Parlophone will be sleeping well tonight, safe in the knowledge that they have safely secured the band of the moment, and from the evidence of their debut single, it's certainly a justified belief to hold In true (all be it a stereotypical notion) quirky Scandinavian fashion, Love Is All are a fierce five piece willing to terrify the ear drums of unprepared listeners. Debut single 'Busy Doing Nothing' is nothing short of this. Josephine Olausson laces the track with her unique brand of stubborn animated yelping, leading a thrilling ride through the stop-start frantic drum beats. It feels like a strangely pleasurable assault on the senses, as the chaotic pace is suddenly varied from a million miles an hour to standing in a post office queue and then straight back again. Jangly guitars and uplifting disco beats in tow help to make for an unrestrictive climate of joyous energy. Describing the song any further is just too difficult, so let's keep it simple; this is amazing. B-side Motorboat (which is incidentally a Kim Fowley cover) helps to calm the elevated senses after the preceding rollercoaster. However, it lacks the addictive edge of the single whilst still managing to retain the same ingredients. There is an overriding sense that this is not what Love Is All are built for. They find it much easier to capture the emotions and imagination when hitting you with everything they have and they are unquestionably great at that. With a hugely anticipated album on the way it is no doubt from this display that they will be soaring high in no time. All you need is Love Is All [groan]. Sahil Varma |
