Commander Swift - Help for the Hopeless

Commander Swift unnerve me. There, I said it. Every song on their new EP Help For The Hopeful sounds like a different band! In the space of three songs they go from feel good Dogs Die In Hot Cars style dance around your room indie pop, to the kind drug addled anthemic melodrama that Muse would be proud of and then somehow manage to end with a teatime tinkle of the old ivories on the extremely retro Gentlemen. Its all a bit weird and thats what makes it so brilliant.

So far, the former straight barman from a lesbian pub, child-loathing bouncy castle provider, park keeping sociopath and foul mouthed Elvis impersonator have yet to venture too far outside of the capital but with a Guilfest slot coming up theyll be traipsing up and down the country before you can say Elvis Costello.

Retro and post-modern, great and crap, Commander Swift are one big contradiction and I love them.
