The Cinematics - Break No one would have guessed they were Scottish. Not that it remotely matters when the music is this pleasing. Singer Scott Rinning's quietly confident voice complements a steady backdrop of firm guitars and rhythms oft considered more at home in dance-orientated music. But then again, from a band that has played with the likes of Editors and We Are Scientists, one might expect a bit of club-worthy excitement. Rinning sounds faintly destitute in his wailing, and yet resigned, resigned to a small yearning in the midst of a faintly enjoyable sense of emotional blackness. "Break" is a triumph, but not so obviously intent on breaking into the musical consciousness that it loses that certain intrigue - it is a song that will seep effortlessly into your brain before you know it.
