Cajun Dance Party + Late Of The Pier + The More Assured @ WayOutWest, Hammersmith, Sept 1st 2006

The More Sssured give a refreshing light on our society. With satirical, humerous lyrics they deal with social taboos [I wanna be a sex offender: Let's make love and taboo], government oppression [Beat you down] and of course, youth behaviour [ASBO/arrest me oh no]. Unusually for an indie rock band, the bassist is the extrovert who introduces the band as well as crowd surfs. By building up a loyal fan club through myspace and of course lyrics which young ‘uns can relate to, they stormed the working mens club, assisted by a large and colourful umbrella, with a rabble of followers. A mix of catchy indie tunes, definitive boogies and a charismatic lead singer evoked the dancing, moshing and crowd surfing spirit of the audience, especially the highly requested ‘I wanna be a sex offender' which had everyone singing along.

Harder to pin down, Late Of The Pier are almost unclassable, yet an electro infused obscure yet brilliant mass of noise seems a good place to put them. Along with bright clothes and crazy-ass dances from the keyboardist, blurted out lyrics and strange one off tunes, late of the pier do not conform to any normal song formats and pull it off with impeccable funkyness.

Now for the secret ingredient; The catalysts of fun. Cajun Dance Party, four teen boys and a gloriously polka dot clad girl heighten the atmosphere with pubescent, teenage angst driven songs [and do you really like me/cos 1+1+1 makes 3] Causing tidal waves of serious 'disco'ing'; these young Cajuners are going to be out there just as soon as they break up for the holidays.
